WIRELESS POWER TRANSFER
Wireless power transfer is the electrical energy transmission without using wires.The principle used is simple mutual induction and this was discovered by Nickolas Tesla back in years.He discovered that magic happens when some coil of wires is placed near a power source of AC which he was experimenting with the winding coil wires.From this he discovered and strongly belived that AC power source can go wirelessly to greater extend.But his knowledge on experiments is limited as we knows now that air is a not a good conductor of electricity,as even radio signal will fade to an extend. Eventhough,it has a larger application like low power charging stations,wireless phone charger etc..Now a days all are becoming wireless.There were times we use DC current in homes,But the DC power is impratical for a distant wired power transmission.The discovery of AC by Tesla and its flexibility to converting to various voltages made AC more pratical to use.So DC was replaced to AC.Also during the power transmission DC has got huge power loss,but AC power is of less in loss.
WORKING
This is a simple wireless electricity power transfer circuit using a transistor.The transistor is a BD139 transistor which is an NPN transistor.We can use any transistor but BD139 is special as it can hold more current at the collector terminal the heating and damages to the transistor can be removed.The BD139 transistor is the heart of this project as it provide oscillation(frequency) to the circuit along with the inductor as inductor often behaves like a capcitor when electricity pass through it.With in seconds it releases the charge it holds.The base is biased to positive through 1 kilo ohms resistor gives the amount of current to the collector terminal.The power source used is a 9 volt DC supply,we can use any power supply between 6-12 volts DC.The collector of transistor is tied to one of the coil end other end goes to resistor(1 kilo ohms).The jointed coils are going to positive terminal of power source.The power source generates an AC oscillation in coil as a result a varring electric field is genereted on the coil surface.This varring field is detected by the secondary coil wire(isolated wire for LED)which powers the LED and glow without having direct contact(wireless) with this 9v power supply.
COIL WINDINGS
The coil windings is the main thing associated with this project.I use a 24 gauge enameled(insulated) copper wire(winding wire).The winding is simple.
PRIMARY WINDING
Iam taking a glass with a diameter of 5 cm and turn the winding on the glass is divided to 15-loop-15.ie,making a 15 turns first.Then iam making a loop,we can cut there also,but looping makes us to understand that its a positive wire.After making loop continue winding counting another 15 as turns.So a total of 30 turns will be on the glass.Remove the insulation on the three wires and connect like how the circuit shows here.
SECONDARY WINDING
The same glass is taken with 5cm diameter and wind the coils on glass until we reach 30 turns.Thats it.Remove the insulation from wire and connect the ends as shown in the circuit below.
